Yummy Crunchy Krispy!!

I remembered during my college years at Columbus, OH, whenever I went to Target or Giant Eagle to do my groceries; I never failed to bring back a box of Glazed Cruller from Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. One of my senior introduced it to me. The crispy and sweet taste of it never let me down each time I dig my mouth into the doughnut. I do not know what is the secret recipe they put in the doughnut, but the taste of the crunchiness is so yummy!

Now that Krispy Kreme Doughnut has opened a branch at Berjaya Times Square, I think I should give it a visit soon. It would be great if Hubby could also taste and experience it because he has been talking about wanting to experience my college year’s life. We have tried my staple food back then, Papa John’s. We have set foot into my favorite label boutique, Forever 21. And know it’s time for him to try my favorite junk food of all time, the Krispy Kreme Doughnut. Weehoo!!

Let's go Akamaru-kun?

Review: Teater Mahsuri

Venue: Istana Budaya
Date: 24 Apr 2009

The lobby area

We arrived at Istana Budaya (Palace of Culture) shortly before 8:00PM. I saw 3 busses loaded with school children outside. Parking area at Istana Budaya is full. Hence we have to park at Balai Seni Lukis Negara and did a little walk towards Istana Budaya. People have been swamped in at the lobby area. Shortly after 8:30PM, the staffs opened up the entrance. We sat at row X. Nearby all the media people. The only face that I could recognize was Adam Corrie Abdullah, the choreographer for the theatre.

The opening screen
The opening was very interesting. With Wan Endah the ‘andartu’ (played by Azizah Mahzan) getting all playful with a gang of ‘pelawak kampung’ followed by all the youngsters of the village singing and dancing to the music, including Mahsuri (played by Vanidah Imran), Wan Darus (played by Arja Lee) and Wan Aria (played by Cico Harahap).

There were a lot of scene and backdrop changing that I felt a little bored towards the middle of the play. The act got a little slower in the middle I almost fall asleep (I kid you not!) The theatre was more of a singing than talking but the singing is actually part of the script (you got me?)

But towards the end of the play, during the scene where Mahsuri was about to get killed by Wan Aria, the play got interesting again. The scene made me cry a little bit (just a bit ok!). Vee managed to deliver her part really really well I felt I was at the real scene witnessing all of it. With the curse that she put to Langkawi and its people, the thunder. Unfortunately there was no white blown flow out of Mahsuri’s body. Only a statement made by her mom, “Ya Allah, darah putih!” (Oh my God, white blood). I was so looking forward to see how Fauziah Nawi wanted to portray the white blood scene. But it was OK.

The voices of the actors/actresses were superb. The speech delivery sometimes was taken over by the live music. There was some minor glitch from the live band. But I think that was acceptable because it’s a live show. All in all, it was a good performance. Congratulations to Fauziah Nawi and the team for the good work of portraying the life of Mahsuri. Bravo!

Oh I forgot to ask dearest Hubby what he felt about the theatre.
p/s: no pics with the casts. i'm not good with posing in front of the camera haha

Mahsuri: Revisited

Langkawi Island is one of the most beautiful and famous attraction in Malaysia. Beautiful for its beaches, waterfalls and lakes. Famous for its legends. One of it is Mahsuri. I remembered during our visit to Langkawi last June, we went to ‘Makam Mahsuri’ to experience first hand about the legend of Mahsuri. Oh she was the most beautiful lady I’ve ever seen (or at least that is what the portrait showed me). I admired (and still admire) her life story.

According to our Malay legend, the beautiful Mahsuri was born to a couple; Pandak Mayah and Cik Alang in Langkawi Island. Mahsuri had many suitors but she soon married a brave warrior, Wan Darus. One day, Wan Darus had to go out to the battlefield, leaving Mahsuri alone to fend herself. She soon gave birth to a baby boy, named Wan Hakim. As jealous as her sister-in-law was, Wan Mahura, accused her of committing adultery. Her brother-in-law, Datuk Pekerma Jaya, was so taken in by Mahura’s accusation, sentenced Mahsuri to death, all without a proper investigation. Mahsuri pleaded her innocence, but to no avail. Mahsuri was tied to a tree and stabbed to death with the ceremonial sword kept at her home. Mahsuri bled white blood, which signifying her innocence. With her dying breath, she laid a curse on Langkawi and its inhabitants, proclaiming that they would be in no prosperity for seven generations. The descendants of Mahsuri continue to live in Phuket, Thailand and her 7th generation descendants, Wan Aisyah Wan Nawawi recently (in 2000) came back to Langkawi to visit Mahsuri’s tomb.

And I think Vanidah Imran is the closest resemblance to Mahsuri. Hubby and I agreed to go and watch Teater Mahsuri tonight. I do hope Fauziah Nawi’s team would be able to deliver the best performance tonight.

Cinta kami memang cinta gila...

Search at Google for Grey Sky Morning - Cinta Gila.mp3 for the song.

This song would best describe my feeling rite now :)

Saat indah bermula...
Terasa bahagia...
Cinta yang lama terhenti, berputik kembali...
Ada yang menghampiri, ku tidak peduli...
Cinta ini cinta gila, untuk kita berdua...

Woo tiada yang dapat menghalangnya
Kita berdua terus bercinta, selamanya...
I can’t live..I can’t living without you oh baby
Just only you that my love..with love...

Hanya kau ku miliki, yang tiada ganti...
Bukan mimpi sudah pasti, jiwaku berseri...
Ada yang menghampiri, ku tidak peduli...
Cinta ini cinta gila, untuk kita berdua....

Bar-be-queuing down-to-earth style

Last Saturday we spent the night with Hubby's MMU clan, having a BBQ session at Seri Kembangan. We were asked to buy 100pcs of sate. And another person will bring 'ayam golek'. So I questioned Hubby, what else to be BBQ-ed. Wanna know what? Corn and potatoes. Ya Allah! The main menu is already being prepared in advance. No fun at all! Hehe. Still waiting for the photos. Photos uploaded.

Sunday, we have to tag along with our parents to a wedding at Gombak. There was this very humble and down-to-earth man sitting beside Hubby. So it was fun chit-chatting and laughing around until mom told me one thing. "Tu CEO of XXX tau". Terus I terkedu. SMS Hubby sbb takkan nak cakap kuat2 plak kan. Hubby also terkejut beruk. Mak aih, how can a CEO acted like normal. I mean just like me and you. Very simple shirt and pants. No proper protocol or attire. Unlike some of the 'orang besar' that I've seen or known before. He's a very cool guy who drive a Lexus LS 460L but prefer his small car when driving downtown. Oh yeah Datuk, I own your small car also! :p

Hubby's credit card is being fraud by someone. The fella used it for CELCOM bill payment and traffic summon payment at My EG. Hubby is now busy going back and forth between police station and bank. We managed to trace the receipt from My EG. Siap display IC no, car plate no and name of the person. Haha that was the stupidiest act I can tell. Kalo iya pon nak fraud credit card org, go and buy someting else that we can't trace lar. Ni pi baya summon. Of course la we can actually find out who you are. Police report has been made yesterday. Now we are waiting for the bank to conduct the investigation. Hopefully Hubby can get the refund money. Its a lot I tell you! Menggeletar Hubby the night he realized about it. Problem is, the physical card is still with him. Yet this fella managed to get the information. How on earth could that possible? Someone please tell me!

Anyone with the same experience?

Stay young forever?

I received an email from my alumni group that caught my attention. It's about George Carlin's view on ageing. I do hope this will help us with our lives.

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctors worry about them. That is why you pay 'them'.

2. Keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.

3. Keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain idle. An idle mind is the devil's workshop. And the devil's name is Alzheimer's.

4. Enjoy the simple things.

5. Laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. The tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person, who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.

7. Surround yourself with what you love , whether it's family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.

8. Cherish your health: If it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.

9. Don't take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, even to the next county; to a foreign country but NOT to where the guilt is.

10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Stay happy and healthy y'all!!
